2_brief
History of the band?
CUT
MY SKIN is existing since June `03. We found eachother the normal
“Berlin Way”. Patti started the search for a new band, made
anouncements and got some telephonnumbers from friends. The only
change of the line-up were
the drummers.. After the CUT MY SKIN 10” “Reflexion” –
Marky left and after CUT MY SKIN 7” “Anxiety” Cris left the
Band. Both didn`t have enough time for the band, the band –
practises, shows, recordings, etc.. Now
Ansgar is
playing drums for CUT
MY SKIN.
3_Who
are you influences?
Each
of us hear mainly different bands – Patti (Rancid, Distillers,
Various Female Artists, Punk), Malik – (Angelic Upstarts, The
Specials, SKA, Punk), Pete (Bad Brains, Black Flag, Hardcore,
Punk), Pablo – (Reggae, Punk), Ansgar – (Punk)
4_best
gig you've played and best band you've played with?
Pete:
Best Gig isnt easy to say. For me Düsseldorf and Magdeburg. Best
Band - Sun Fucking Ocean, Antidote
Malik:
I agree with Düsseldorf and Magdeburg, but I liked the
Filaments most
5_
Tell me how do you describe you're music?
Our
music is mainly PUNKROCK with influances of hardcore, ska, and
some reggae.
6_What's
the funniest thing to happen on tour?
When
we arrived to play in Jena, there were a lot of people in front of
the venue outside on the pavement in the middle of a shopping
street having a kind of demonstration with a huge banner in the
backgound saying: “ We strike” (It was about 35 hours work a
month, so the Punks would have more time to hang around and beg
for money). The organisator, who is a left wing priest, asked us
to play some songs there ,before the normal concert started. Also
he wanted our guitar player Pablo , who is argentinien, to do a
little speech about the political subject, which was funny,
because he didn`t have any clou what it was all about. So it was a
chaos of language. We did have a big party with the priest, Lothar,
and the people from the place which ended completely drunk in the
morning.
7
_what are the best and worst parts of touring?
Pete:
Best - the PUNK ROCK PARTY with the people, during and after the
show.
Malik: And the worst parts are the hours in the van and bad
catering like “Kidney Beans, Corn & Rice” – FART!
8_what
do you think about the punk scene in your country(in italy we have
a bad scene)?
Pete:
In Germany the punk scene dont change so much. Here`s existing a
lot of Bands. Berlin is a town with serveral locations for them to
play. A lot of the older Punk Generation get married, have work
etc. And no time and power to go to the shows like 20 years ago
and a new generation grew up.
In Berlin some squats are existing or people live together in vans.
Also a lot of political groups in Berlin, who organise
demonstrations etc.
Malik: There’s quite a lot going on here in Germany. We don’t
have problems to get gigs in Germany. But large parts of the scene
seem to be so satisfied with the situation, that they are only
passive consumers and don’t start new things. I think there
could happen even more, if it wasn’t always left to only some
people.
9_where
do you see yourself in 5 years time?
Pete:
I hope on stage playing bass.
Malik: Still enjoying Cut My Skin and the music we play.
10_Any
advice to give to bands just starting up?
Pete:
Never give up – fight for your music. Easy way for promotion or
reach other bands, locations is the internet.
Malik: Always play the music you want to play and not what you
think the crowd wants to hear. If you play with passion the people
will honor it.
11_Strange/gross
fact about each of you?
Pete:
I love noddle soup.
Malik: I really like ABBA. SOS is my favourite.
ThänX
for your interest. Greetz to @ll Italy-PunX and i ll hope see you
on one of our shows. Maybe someday in Italy ....
